Fourth Grade is a time of transition for students. They move into the intermediate section of the school, get to be lunch servers, musicians in Mass, and maintain their own assignment books. It is an exciting year, filled with new challenges and growth for the students.
Religious instruction in the Fourth Grade focuses on the Beatitudes, Ten Commandments, and continuing to learn the Sacraments and the importance of the Church. As a service project, we visit Harmony River monthly to celebrate Mass with residents and spend time together.
In the Fourth Grade, Reading and Spelling go hand-in-hand as students learn about spelling patterns and base word parts, using both to enhance vocabulary and spelling skills. As these skills improve, we continue to work on reading comprehension, fluency, and strategies for reading. Our main goal is to try to get kids to love to read.
Science is divided into three units of study. We start with Life and learn about plants and animals. The next unit is Physical, where we learn about mass, matter, and density. The Earth is the next unit, where we cover geology and weather.
Fourth Grade students participate in Junior Achievement, a program that helps students to understand the basics of finances and business through hands-on programs and lessons.
Each year we take a class field trip. Past trips have included Nature Field Day for 4th Graders in McLeod County, Fort Snelling, and the Basilica of St. Mary’s.
We enjoy partnering with the Second Grade students to do different activities throughout the year. It is a great way for them to develop relationships and help the younger kids.
We utilize SMART Boards to enhance student learning.
